Explore the Noosa Everglades
Visit Noosa’s best-kept secret, the Noosa Everglades wilderness area with its dark waterways and myriad of wildlife. The Everglades include the upper reaches of the Noosa River, Hidden within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park.
The everglades are a tranquil oasis with Paperbark trees reflecting perfectly in the dark, tannin-stained fresh waters. More bird species make the Everglades their home than in Kakadu and the mystical waters are rich in aquatic life.
There are only two everglades systems in the world, including the Noosa Everglades and the Florida Everglades. But ours is the only one representing an ancient waterway that has existed unchanged for thousands of years, courtesy of the Noosa Biosphere project.

The Discovery Group operates daily tours to the Noosa Everglades, cruising up the Noosa River and through many points of interest along the way, including Richard Branson’s heart-shaped Makepeace Island retreat. The cruise passes over the wildlife rich salt-water lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba, on the way to the fresh water reaches of the Everglades. Past the edges of Lake Cootharaba guests can select to either stay on the cruise boat or get close to the water canoes. The destination is Harry’s Hut, an old loggers camp and picnic / swimming area.
Getting close to the water on canoe and paddling the 6 kilometres to the picnic area is the ideal way to experience the Everglades. Either way the reward is a BBQ lunch in a tranquil picnic and swimming area. The Noosa Everglades offer spectacular scenery and there are ample kayak, canoe and river cruise activities on offer for you to best explore this unique location.
